Dr. Larry Dossey wouldn’t wish a case of hives on anybody.
“It’s not a comfortable feeling at all,” Dossey recalled. “I had to go to the emergency room (in his hometown Santa Fe, N.M.) at 4 a.m.”
Dossey underplayed his physician credentials at the front desk and while talking with nurses. He didn’t call attention to his profession.
What happened in that ER floored him, but not in terms of his treatment. The medical staff helped him clear the hives without much discomfort or pain or even a long stay. What moved him was pretty much a validation of his entire career as a doctor, author and advocate for the healing power of prayer.
Dossey wrote a book, “Healing Words,” back in 1993 that was groundbreaking and provocative. His premise, based on as many research studies as he could pull together, was that prayer and a person’s spiritual practice can have a positive impact on health. He linked directed prayer to helping people get better or recover from serious illness. Studies showed that people who had a faith life stood to live longer, he wrote. Read More on this topic…..
