This summer I had the opportunity to travel to Peru with my father and it was an incredible experience. After a long plane trip from Vancouver, we finally started our trek from Cusco, which is full of Incan history. I was warned before going to Peru that the altitude (11000ft) can make it very difficult to function and that you would need a day to adapt. I did not take these warnings seriously but it became apparent very quickly that the altitude was affecting us both. After our bodies adapted to the thinner air, we then proceeded to a small town called Ollantaytambo, located in the Sacred Valley.

The setting in this sacred valley was very unique. There were Incan ruins scattered all over the valley and it is clear that this was a thriving community at the height of the Incan empire. Some of the ruins were absolutely incredible feats of engineering. I spent hours looking at some of these structures just contemplating how it was even possible to build this. Many of the cuts were made to perfection and the junctions were such a perfect fit that it is not possible to even fit a piece of paper between them.

Amazing rocks in Ollantaytambo

Amazing rocks in Ollantaytambo. They fit perfect even after being exposed to centuries of earthquakes and weather.

Perhaps the most fascinating engineering feat that I saw on this trip was a block of granite that was perfectly cut out of the mountain at a location called the Temple of the Condor. It is easy to visualize how they cut the sides but it boggles the mind when trying to figure out how they cut behind this solid rock. This one particular site is not seen by many tourists in the area. To me, this small corner in Ollantaytambo had more spiritual significance than any other site that I visited in Peru.

After visiting Ollantaytambo we then decided to visit Machu Picchu. The town at the base of the mountain is called Aguas Calientes and you can only reach it by train. We woke up at 4:30AM to get in line for the buses to Machu Picchu and there were already hundreds of people in front of us. Although Machu Picchu is an incredible ancient city at a beautiful location, it did not hold much spiritual significance to me. I believe that this was due to the fact that there were so many other people there. While on the mountain I made an Alpaca friend who was happy to take a picture with me.

Overall this trip was a very spiritual experience where on many occasions I could feel the emotions from these historical sites. This region has a brutal history as the Spanish came through and destroyed the Incan culture. You can feel the charged emotions from some of these ruins where atrocities occurred. This trip gave me a deep respect for the Incan culture. The ruins that remain despite centuries of wars and earthquakes are a reminder as to how advanced this culture really was.

Dreamhealer DNA

By: Michael Forrester

With evidence growing that training the mind or inducing certain modes of consciousness can have positive health effects, researchers have sought to understand how these practices physically affect the body. A new study by researchers in Wisconsin, Spain, and France reports the first evidence of specific molecular changes in the body following a period of intensive mindfulness practice.

The study investigated the effects of a day of intensive mindfulness practice in a group of experienced meditators, compared to a group of untrained control subjects who engaged in quiet non-meditative activities. After eight hours of mindfulness practice, the meditators showed a range of genetic and molecular differences, including altered levels of gene-regulating machinery and reduced levels of pro-inflammatory genes, which in turn correlated with faster physical recovery from a stressful situation.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper that shows rapid alterations in gene expression within subjects associated with mindfulness meditation practice,” says study author Richard J. Davidson, founder of the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds and the William James and Vilas Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“Most interestingly, the changes were observed in genes that are the current targets of anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs,” says Perla Kaliman, first author of the article and a researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona, Spain (IIBB-CSIC-IDIBAPS), where the molecular analyses were conducted.

The study was published in the Journal Psychoneuroendocrinology.

Mindfulness-based trainings have shown beneficial effects on inflammatory disorders in prior clinical studies and are endorsed by the American Heart Association as a preventative intervention. The new results provide a possible biological mechanism for therapeutic effects.

Gene Activity Can Change According To Perception

According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, gene activity can change on a daily basis. If the perception in your mind is reflected in the chemistry of your body, and if your nervous system reads and interprets the environment and then controls the blood’s chemistry, then you can literally change the fate of your cells by altering your thoughts.

In fact, Dr. Lipton’s research illustrates that by changing your perception, your mind can alter the activity of your genes and create over thirty thousand variations of products from each gene. He gives more detail by saying that the gene programs are contained within the nucleus of the cell, and you can rewrite those genetic programs through changing your blood chemistry.

In the simplest terms, this means that we need to change the way we think if we are to heal cancer. “The function of the mind is to create coherence between our beliefs and the reality we experience,” Dr. Lipton said. “What that means is that your mind will adjust the body’s biology and behavior to fit with your beliefs. If you’ve been told you’ll die in six months and your mind believes it, you most likely will die in six months. That’s called the nocebo effect, the result of a negative thought, which is the opposite of the placebo effect, where healing is mediated by a positive thought.”

That dynamic points to a three-party system: there’s the part of you that swears it doesn’t want to die (the conscious mind), trumped by the part that believes you will (the doctor’s prognosis mediated by the subconscious mind), which then throws into gear the chemical reaction (mediated by the brain’s chemistry) to make sure the body conforms to the dominant belief. (Neuroscience has recognized that the subconscious controls 95 percent of our lives.)

Now what about the part that doesn’t want to die–the conscious mind? Isn’t it impacting the body’s chemistry as well? Dr. Lipton said that it comes down to how the subconscious mind, which contains our deepest beliefs, has been programmed. It is these beliefs that ultimately cast the deciding vote.

“It’s a complex situation,” said Dr. Lipton. People have been programmed to believe that they’re victims and that they have no control. We’re programmed from the start with our mother and father’s beliefs. So, for instance, when we got sick, we were told by our parents that we had to go to the doctor because the doctor is the authority concerning our health. We all got the message throughout childhood that doctors were the authority on health and that we were victims of bodily forces beyond our ability to control. The joke, however, is that people often get better while on the way to the doctor. That’s when the innate ability for self-healing kicks in, another example of the placebo effect.

Mindfulness Practice Specifically Affects Regulatory Pathways

The results of Davidson’s study show a down-regulation of genes that have been implicated in inflammation. The affected genes include the pro-inflammatory genes RIPK2 and COX2 as well as several histone deacetylase (HDAC) genes, which regulate the activity of other genes epigenetically by removing a type of chemical tag. What’s more, the extent to which some of those genes were downregulated was associated with faster cortisol recovery to a social stress test involving an impromptu speech and tasks requiring mental calculations performed in front of an audience and video camera.

Biologists have suspected for years that some kind of epigenetic inheritance occurs at the cellular level. The different kinds of cells in our bodies provide an example. Skin cells and brain cells have different forms and functions, despite having exactly the same DNA. There must be mechanisms–other than DNA–that make sure skin cells stay skin cells when they divide.

Perhaps surprisingly, the researchers say, there was no difference in the tested genes between the two groups of people at the start of the study. The observed effects were seen only in the meditators following mindfulness practice. In addition, several other DNA-modifying genes showed no differences between groups, suggesting that the mindfulness practice specifically affected certain regulatory pathways.

The key result is that meditators experienced genetic changes following mindfulness practice that were not seen in the non-meditating group after other quiet activities — an outcome providing proof of principle that mindfulness practice can lead to epigenetic alterations of the genome.

Previous studies in rodents and in people have shown dynamic epigenetic responses to physical stimuli such as stress, diet, or exercise within just a few hours.

“Our genes are quite dynamic in their expression and these results suggest that the calmness of our mind can actually have a potential influence on their expression,” Davidson says.

“The regulation of HDACs and inflammatory pathways may represent some of the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic potential of mindfulness-based interventions,” Kaliman says. “Our findings set the foundation for future studies to further assess meditation strategies for the treatment of chronic inflammatory conditions.”

Subconscious Beliefs Are Key

Too many positive thinkers know that thinking good thoughts–and reciting affirmations for hours on end–doesn’t always bring about the results that feel-good books promise.

Dr. Lipton didn’t argue this point, because positive thoughts come from the conscious mind, while contradictory negative thoughts are usually programmed in the more powerful subconscious mind.

“The major problem is that people are aware of their conscious beliefs and behaviors, but not of subconscious beliefs and behaviors. Most people don’t even acknowledge that their subconscious mind is at play, when the fact is that the subconscious mind is a million times more powerful than the conscious mind and that we operate 95 to 99 percent of our lives from subconscious programs.

“Your subconscious beliefs are working either for you or against you, but the truth is that you are not controlling your life, because your subconscious mind supersedes all conscious control. So when you are trying to heal from a conscious level–citing affirmations and telling yourself you’re healthy–there may be an invisible subconscious program that’s sabotaging you.”

The power of the subconscious mind is elegantly revealed in people expressing multiple personalities. While occupying the mind-set of one personality, the individual may be severely allergic to strawberries. Then, in experiencing the mind-set of another personality, he or she eats them without consequence.

The new science of epigenetics promises that every person on the planet has the opportunity to become who they really are, complete with unimaginable power and the ability to operate from, and go for, the highest possibilities, including healing our bodies and our culture and living in peace.

adam dreamhealer cancer

After diagnosing Ronnie with pancreatic cancer, on August 13, 2002 Ronnie Hawkins’ surgeon opened him up and found a hardened lump consistent with a cancerous tumor on the head of the pancreas, between Ronnie’s bowel and liver. Dr Bryce Taylor tried to remove it but it was wrapped around major veins and arteries. He performed a bypass and sewed Ronnie back up. Hawkins refused chemotherapy and was expected to be dead by Christmas 2002 as the tumor kept growing at a rapid rate, a behavior consistent with a malignant tumor. Dr. Taylor said “Every body in the medical team and in Ronnie’s family became resigned to the fact that he was dealing with a very serious illness, one that he would not recover from.”

On September 21, 2002 Adam read an article about Ronnie’s pancreatic cancer in the local newspaper. At this time Adam was having numerous successes with healing using his newfound ability to heal. He hadn’t worked with anyone that was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer but he felt confident that he could help Ronnie and wanted to give it a try. After contacting Ronnie’s manager, Ronnie decided that he had nothing to lose and would like to give Adam a try. At that time Ronnie declared, “If Adam can pull this off, tell him we’ll send him an autographed Hawk T-shirt. “

Adam carried out long distance healing treatments from Vancouver, British Columbia on Ronnie who was at his home in Peterborough, Ontario. He treated Ronnie from September 21st, 2002 to April 11, 2003 at which time Ronnie’s doctors read his MRI and declared him cancer free and tumor free.

Adam met Ronnie Hawkins for the first time in person in October when they were both featured in an Ontario TV show called “Health On the Line”. Adam also appears in the award-winning documentary movie “Alive and Kicking” which was being filmed at this same time in Ronnie’s home when Adam visited him.

It is has been over 10 years since Ronnie was told that he only had a few months to live yet into the 11th year later he is still cancer-free. Since then Adam has spent a decade in University studying the science behind his natural healing abilities in molecular biology, biochemistry and Naturopathic Medicine. Also during this time Adam has helped thousands of people in conferences using group energy treatments and teaching them how to use their own healing abilities. He currently has a speaking tour schedule across Canada.

Ronnie got his life back and Adam has an autographed T-shirt to prove it.

Visualization is a tool to help you take control of your own intentions. This can help you to align your conscious and subconscious mind in a way that is optimal for healing. Visualizations accelerate the healing process by getting all of your cells working together towards optimal health.

Use whatever your most dominant sense is to your advantage when visualizing. Some people are more tuned into auditory memory and they prefer to visualize healing music. Others remember visual stimuli and prefer to visualize dynamic healing images. Ideally we want to visualize using all of our senses and this comes with practice.

Your subconscious acts as a filter, bringing details to your conscious awareness on a need-to -know basis as there is so much information streaming at you constantly. What you are aware of is what you focus on. This can prevent you from seeing the bigger picture. Our reality is what we focus on and what we perceive it to be.

Your brain cannot distinguish between a real event and a perceived event. In other words, your body responds to your mental stimuli the same way as physical stimuli. By making your visualizations as realistic as possible with clear positive intention, you will achieve optimal results. You are recreating yourself in your new experience of wellness. Create your new healthy reality now. Remember that the energy of your intentions is actually being processed as new information within your body. That is the true power of visualization.

The mental imprint from visualizations triggers changes in the neurons of your brain. Neuron connections are strengthened by repeated visualizations. Set what you desire in your conscious mind, and then let your subconscious mind recreate what your intentions are. For example, if you have a headache, your intention is to become pain free. A visualization would be much more specific, sending step- by -step instructions to your body as to how this should be accomplished.

Visualize the blood vessels in the area of pain opening and allowing unrestricted blood flow. Then visualize calming ripples of energy emanating from the area. Imagine every muscle in that area being totally relaxed. Through your focused intentions you can speed up your own healing process.

Simplify your visualization by choosing only one goal before proceeding with any other issues you may have. Prioritizing your goals will help you to determine your focus. Be as concise and specific as possible as you focus your mind on healing.

Tuned-in Youth Adam Dreamhealer

As an energy healer, I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with many people of all ages. It is particularly encouraging working with young people as they are often acutely aware of their own energy system.

Being 21 years-old myself, it is easy to relate to youth who contact me after reading my books or attending workshops. Our awareness of our energy is not unique — but our acknowledgement of it and speaking about it is — at least in our culture. Youth are sometimes cited as being more spiritually aware and in touch with their innate abilities and connections. But perhaps they just feel more able to freely express themselves.

Rolling Stone magazine published an article “The Boy With the Magic Touch” about my work as a healer with Dr. Edgar Mitchell, an American astronaut, and Ronnie Hawkins, a famous rock star. As anticipated, I received thousands of responses. What we didn’t expect was hundreds of emails from teenagers and 20-year-olds telling me about their personal energy experiences. Many had never told a soul about them for fear of being ridiculed. Some had confided in a parent, only to discover that they were judged and mocked, or dismissed entirely. Reactions of others are sometimes fear-based as a lack of understanding leads to an agitated, uncomfortable state, and point-of-view.

I heard from others who had experienced healing, both as healer and healee. It was a profound event, yet one that many felt unable to discuss with their peers, parents or anyone at all. Some expressed their relief in finally being able to correspond with someone who really understood.

At high school, there is intense pressure to conform. The biggest fear of most students, is being different, or being seen as different. What is viewed as “paranormal” is to be hidden; or exposed at your own peril. I learned that being a rock star is cool: Healing one isn’t. So I too kept quiet about it, at least throughout my high school years. Maintaining the status-quo is very restrictive and narrow in its perspective. In elementary school my class was shown a film starring skeptics who debunked paranormal events. It was clear that energy awareness and energy healing fell into this unacceptable category. No wonder many young people keep quiet about what we are so naturally aware of.

Now that I am at University, most people are too busy to care. I am constantly surprised that some of the biggest and strongest athletes I have known, understand the importance of energy fields,
and are interested in what I do.

I have also found that the internet makes it is easier to find out about energy healing and make connections to others with similar interests. Youth is tuned into these technological advances and this can validate that what they are experiencing is “normal”. As babies, we were totally connected with our mother’s energy system, which is an important part of our survival mechanism. As we develop, we are mindful of other’s energy directly affecting us. This web involves more energy connections as our world of relationships grows. Every energy has an effect on our energy – we are all intertwined at our most basic and natural level. Children know this and youth must stay in tune with it.

Positive thoughts and intentions affect us all far beyond our conscious awareness. Acknowledge this connection to everything and the possibilities for the future are limitless.

Humans have always sought to understand the origin of the Universe, and the origin of Consciousness. How did the Universe originate? How did consciousness originate? Was consciousness there from the beginning, or did it evolve out of something else? Ever since man stared at the stars above, these questions have persisted. Discussing the origin of the Universe at first glance may seem like it is quite remote from healing, but in fact the topics are strongly linked. Read More…
